Call Today — You'll be gald you did!

I don't want to butt in, but...

By the look on his face the news was troubling — quickly pale and wide eyed.  I could only imagine — what had he just learned?  As he set down his phone and resumed his table conversation, I overheard the news: his Dad had just passed away.  Sitting in a booth opposite this stranger at Denny’s restaurant, I wondered what to do.  In an instant this man’s life was changed; I just didn’t know the full extent.  We can all relate.  Life rocks our boat — events occur — uncertainty creeps in — and we are faced with new issues for which we never prepared.

Years ago my boat was rocked as I learned how easily and quickly one can lose the family home.  As a brash and driven business owner, I played fast and loose with our family’s funds — only to learn that my home had been auctioned to another person because I had not paid our property taxes.  As you might imagine this “event” did not help strengthen my marriage — and so, “I had issues” as they say.

Issues and events are often the way we get experience and, as everyone knows, experience is a form of knowledge that produces wisdom — but I digress — back to Denny’s…
What should I do? Is this “event” any of my business?  Probably not — but you know, in life you can never be sure.  My concern stemmed from my experience.  I know that the death of a loved one can bring on a host of issues for family members to deal with.  A funeral needs to be planned.  Family and friends call and visit.  And, immediately following this frenzied experience, the estate needs to be settled — a painful and sometimes lengthy process.

Frequently there’s a property that needs to be sold and too often the property is not in the best repair as elderly people can’t keep up as they did in years past.  Surviving children struggle to balance their family life and job demands while trying to handle estate transactions from homes often located in other states.  And, in today’s highly leveraged culture, there’s often less equity in the home than what might have been expected.

Can I help?  Maybe.

Each situation is different — people are different.  All I know for sure is this: I care and I do have the resources to make a difference if someone needs to sell a home fast.

Should I butt in and tell my fellow guest of Denny’s to call me?  I think not.  After all, I don’t like people who are presumptuous, and I would imagine this is true for a lot of people.

On the other hand, I will tell you that this moment and encounter did remind me how life can change in an instant —good and bad.  And it also reminds me how privileged and blessed I am to serve people in circumstances where a quick home sale relieves them of a problem and helps them move to the next chapter in life.

If  I can help you make your new year brighter, by relieving you of a piece of real estate that has you overwhelmed, it will be my privilege to help you explore your options.
